“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” - John 14:27
“These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” - John 16:33
The pursuit of peace is a universal endeavor in a world riddled with turbulence and uncertainty. We all long for that peaceful moment when anxieties recede and the heart may rest. But what if there is a tranquility that transcends circumstances? What if true peace isn't based on external causes, but comes from within?
Episode 1: Finding Peace
On our quest to discover the essence of peace, we come across two unique forms. The first comes from the outside world and provides momentary relief. This tranquility is contingent on nice surroundings or enjoyable activity. However, when these external things change, the peace dissipates, leaving us yearning for more.
Consider fleeing to nature's peaceful embrace—the mountains, the tranquil streams, the soothing air. Worries tend to go away at these times. Consider the delight of festivities, the laughter of companions, and the warmth of friendship. However, these pleasurable sensations are transitory.
The Peace That Is Unaffected by Circumstances
This world-given calm is a passing shadow, providing temporary relief but unable to survive life's storms. In John 14:27, Jesus shares, “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
From this profound verse, we glean the nature of Jesus' peace:
- It's Jesus' Own Peace: Unlike worldly tranquility, Jesus offers His personal peace, a priceless gift.
- Aside from Circumstances: Jesus' peace transcends circumstances; it is not dependent on outside things.
- Defying Troubles: Jesus' peace enables us to overcome difficulties and anxieties, keeping our hearts from becoming worried or fearful.
The Prince of Peace
We meet the Prince of Peace Himself as we investigate Jesus' peace. According to Ephesians 2:14, Jesus is our Peace, breaking down barriers of division across races and establishing togetherness. Galatians 3:26-28 underlines God's unifying power, eradicating barriers of race, gender, and social class.
Finding Lasting Peace
Remember, as we embark on this road, that the peace Jesus brings is not inert; it is a dynamic force that thrives in the midst of difficulties. This peace does not come from meditation or good deeds; it comes from a personal relationship with Jesus.
The peace He offers is more than just a lack of strife; it is the presence of His unwavering love, grace, and power. This calm fills voids that circumstances cannot, restoring balance to all aspects of life.
