Why Can't I Get My Breakthrough:
Episode 2: Sexual Purity
Welcome to the "Why Can't I Get My Breakthrough?" series, in which we dive deep into the issues that many of us face on a daily basis. In the last two episodes, we talked about three critical aspects of our lives that are critical for attaining a true breakthrough: our relationship with our parents, sexual purity, and occult and idolatry. Today, we'll look at the second topic: Sexual Purity.
Beyond the Physical Aspects of Sexual Purity
Sexual purity, at its essence, extends much beyond the physical act of intercourse. While our bodies go through a physiological experience aided by hormones and chemicals inside our bodies, we also have a profoundly spiritual encounter. When a man and a woman have sexual relations, they become one flesh, according to the Bible. This spiritual union is intended to strengthen the link between spouses and is required for childbearing.
Sex is, in truth, God's wonderful gift to humans. When God created man and woman, He meant for them to be united in marriage, blessed by the act of sex and the creation of life. The Bible even advises married couples to engage in sexual intimacy in order to strengthen their bond. However, God expressly condemns sexual relations outside of marriage.
A Biblical Perspective on Sexual Purity
God's blessing on sexual interactions within the boundaries of marriage is found throughout the Bible, yet He condemns any form of sexual sin. Adultery, fornication, prostitution, incest, bestiality, cult prostitution, homosexuality, ritualistic sex, and other perversions and uncleanness are all prohibited. Such acts corrupt people who engage in them and invite God's judgment.
Sexual sins are expressly listed as deeds of the flesh in Galatians 5:19-20, while 1 Thessalonians 4:2-8 emphasizes God's desire for us to be holy and avoid sexual immorality. The necessity of valuing marriage and keeping faithful to one another is emphasized in Hebrews 13:4.
Breaking Free from Sexual Sin
If you've struggled with sexual sin in the past, there is still hope for you. Conviction from this message is a good indication; it signifies your conscience is awake and God is speaking to your heart. He longs to forgive, heal, and cleanse you of the guilt and humiliation you bear. God wants to set you free and give you the breakthrough you've been seeking.
1 John 1:8-9 reminds us:
"If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."
Take a minute to confess your sins to God and ask for forgiveness for any sexual sins you've committed. Pray audibly. Following that, declare aloud:
"I cut off all ungodly soul ties and sexual connections with those I've been involved with, and I command every demon of lust and perversion to leave me in Jesus' name."
If you remember the names of your sexual partners, it would be helpful to name them in this declaration, one at a time.
Finally, make a commitment to purity, holiness, truth, and righteousness in your body and mind. Surrender them to the real God and pray for your breakthrough, including healing, financial benefits, and rebuilt relationships. Pray are prayer of commitment. Perhaps, the following can be a useful guide to your commitment prayer:
“Father God, I dedicate every member of my body including my thoughts and desires to be instruments of righteousness from now on. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”
Conclusion: Embracing the Purity Power
This episode may have been difficult, but it is an essential part of your journey to freedom. By embracing sexual purity, you wash yourself from the inside out and lay the groundwork for personal growth. In the following episode, we'll look at the third essential area for breakthrough: the Occult and Idolatry.
