Why Can't I Get My Breakthrough:
Episode 3: Idolatry & Occult
Welcome back to our "Why Can't I Get My Breakthrough?" series. In prior episodes, we discussed the need of mending our relationships with our parents and practicing sexual purity. Today's topic is directly related to two areas: idolatry and the occult.
Idolatry Explained
Idolatry entails the worship of idols, whether made of wood, stone, or metal, as well as the devotion to sacred things, arts, and pictures. It extends to the adoration of persons or saints, all of which is termed idolatry. Idolatry occurs when we choose to worship anything or anybody other than the one true God, who is the Creator of the universe and invisible to the naked eye.
According to the first of the Ten Commandments:
"I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the house of slavery." There shall be no other gods before Me. You shall not carve an image for yourself..." (see Exodus 20:1-7)
This commandment is unequivocal: we are to worship and serve only the one true God, and any departure leads to sin.
Unpacking the Mysteries of the Occult
The occult refers to supernatural, mystical, or magical powers, practices, or phenomena. These can involve rites, esoteric knowledge, and secret ceremonies that only the initiated can access. As seen in Deuteronomy 18:9-14, the Bible is unequivocal on the dangers of the occult.
"When you enter the land the Lord your God is giving you, be very careful not to imitate the detestable customs of the nations living there... Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord."
The Relationship Between Idolatry and the Occult
These two fields are inextricably linked. When a person is engaged in one, they frequently become involved in the other, sometimes unintentionally. Idolatry and the occult both symbolize a dependence on supernatural force other than God, resulting in the worship of demons by default. It is critical to understand that devils and God are diametrically opposed, and one cannot serve both. A decision must be made.
God is known in the Bible as Yahweh in the Old Testament and God the Father, Jesus Christ the Son, and the Holy Spirit in the New Testament. These three persons are one God, the Creator who created us with immortal spirits so that we may communicate with Him. Our worldly lives are a journey to our eternal destination, which will be either heaven or hell, based on whether or not we accept our faith in Jesus' sacrificial death and resurrection.
A Decisive Moment
If you haven't embraced Jesus as your Lord and Savior, now is the time. Humble yourself, admit your sins, and accept His pardon. Because He loves you and wants to set you free, Jesus paid the ultimate payment for your sins.
If you need help with how to pray, you can use the sample prayer here:
🙏 Prayer of Salvation:
"Dear Lord Jesus Christ, today I recognize my need for forgiveness. I admit that I am a sinner, separated from You. I understand that You loved me so much that You laid down Your life for me, bearing my sins on the cross. Today, I choose to believe in You. I confess with my mouth that You are my Lord and Savior. I ask for Your forgiveness and invite You to come into my life. Transform me from the inside out. Guide me on this journey of faith. Thank You for forgiving me and making me a child of God. In Jesus's name, I pray. Amen."
Breaking Free from Idolatry and the Occult
God clearly forbids both idolatry and the occult because they lure our hearts away from Him, often without our realizing it. Life becomes more confusing as we grow farther away from God and closer to Satan. Problems appear where none previously existed, and health difficulties might become chronic or complicating.
Satan is a skillful manipulator who seduces people with promises of wealth, power, glamour, and pleasure. These, though, are only bait. Serving Satan enslaves one and eventually leads to disaster. It's a lose-lose situation. Satan despises all humanity since we are fashioned in the image of God, and he strives to deceive us about God's nature.
A Prayer for Cleansing and Deliverance
Confess your sins to God if you have been involved in any type of occult or idolatry. Include any family members or relatives who were also involved in your confession. Their sins can have long-term consequences for you. Make sure that you have prayed over everything you know about this area.
Now, after you have confessed your sins and your family’s sins to God, say the following prayer aloud:
"Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, I take authority. I severed all ungodly soul and spirit ties with any demon, idol, occult practice, ceremony, or anyone associated with me in the practices of the occult and idolatry, whether dead or alive. In Jesus' name, I command every demonic entity to leave me and every curse to be lifted. Wash me in Jesus' blood, cleanse and heal me, and restore the joy of Your salvation to me. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit of freedom, Amen."
Embrace Your Freedom
As you complete this prayer, you should feel a sense of relief and clarity. Blessings will pour into your life in unprecedented quantities. If you experience additional stress or difficulty when praying, consult with a pastor or Christian counselor. Some deeply entrenched demonic strongholds may necessitate additional assistance.
We'll present real-life stories of people who discovered freedom by addressing three important areas: reconciling with their parents, breaking free from sexual sins, and cutting links with the occult and idolatry.
